India gang rape sentencing postponed

A judge will deliver the sentencing of the four men convicted of killing a woman on Friday.

The men gang-raped and tortured the 23-year-old woman on a bus in New Delhi, before dumping her and her male friend on the road.

She died in a Singapore hospital two weeks later of internal injuries.

Defence lawyer for two of the four suspects said they had asked for leniency from the judge.

Outside the court, protesters demanded the death penalty.

Father of the victim spoke to journalists before the hearing and said he wants them to be hanged.

(SOUNDBITE) (Hindi) FATHER OF THE VICTIM OF DELHI GANG RAPE, SAYING:

"We are going to the court with the hope that the convicts will be hanged. We do not want anything other than the death sentence."
