White House says 'preponderance of evidence' Assad used chemical weapons

The White House says it's on track to deliver a report to the American public that could pave the way to an attack on Syria.

SOUNDBITE: White House Spokesman Josh Earnest saying:

"There is a preponderance of publicly available evidence to support that the Assad regime used chemical weapons --- It is apparent that they used them on the night of August 21st."

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest says an intelligence report supporting this finding is expected sometime this week, and that consultations between the President and congress are underway.

His remarks come as UN teams gathered evidence in the Damascus suburb where the attack is said to have taken place.

Asked what role their (UN) findings might play, Earnest had this to say:
