You never really know what's happening in the car or home next to you.

Two California parents were arrested when police found their children, alive but crying, locked in the trunk of their car.

Police discovered them after responding to a tip called in by a concerned citizen that said they spotted the black Cadillac with a kid in the trunk at a Baker’s Drive-Thru.

Upon locating and pulling the vehicle over, the deputy noticed a strong smell of alcohol and asked the mother, who was driving the car, to pop the trunk.

She hesitated, but complied with the request.

That’s when both children were found in the car’s trunk.

The 6-year-old boy and 8 year-old girl were unharmed but upset.

The father and another person, whose relationship to the parents is unknown, were passengers.

They were all arrested on charges of cruelty to a child and later released on bail.

If convicted, each could face between 1 year in jail and 6 years in prison.

The children were immediately sent to stay with a relative.
