Following a recent shipwreck, a South African man got his dog to shore safely before going back to do the same for his wife.

Graham Anley, his wife Cheryl, and their dog Rosie, a 9 year-old jack russel terrier, were on vacation and set sail from East London, South Africa to Madagascar.

Not long into their trip, their yacht, The Boundless, struck a reef. Graham sent a distress call and activated the ship’s global positioning stress beacon, but the three needed to evacuate immediately.

All of them were wearing life jackets, Rosie’s being a custom made model outfitted with an emergency strobe light.

On her way out of the sinking boat, Cheryl’s safety line became tangled in the ships steering mechanism.

However, Graham opted to swim his dog Rosie safely to shore before going back to help his wife.

By the time the helicopter sent by the National Sea Institute arrived, the three of them had made it to dry land.

All of them were reported to have survived the ordeal unharmed.
