Government to set up more medical, nursing colleges

The provincial government is endeavouring to establish more medical colleges and nursing institutes in view of the shortage of doctors and nursing staff, said Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan. He was speaking at the foundation-stone laying ceremony of the medical college in Landhi.This college is being established under the auspices of the Sindh Health Department.

The governor said that he was happy that there has been final launching of this project. He pointed out that the Sindh Chief Minister has laid the foundation stone of a medical college in Khairpur and that the second such institution is being set up in Karachi’s Landhi area.

Ebad said that he had asked the Sindh Health Minister, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, that medical colleges and nursing institute be established in the province and that he was ready to extend any assistance in this regard.

He was of this view that this project is product of the democracy and the policy of reconciliation and on this he congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari and chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain.

The governor said that medical colleges would be set up in every district of the province so that the youngsters in those areas get the opportunities to acquire higher education.

He pointed out that the first law university is also being established in the province where during the last eight to 10 years 20 universities have been set up.

Ebad said that the present democratic government was completing its tenure and entering the election process and that this system should continue as it is beneficial for the country.
