On at least two other occasions, local residents were burglarized while attending a relative or other loved one’s funeral. It was that dreaded pocket dial which alerted authorities of the men responsible.

During the call one of the thieves stated “I didn't even get to go through half the of the house.” In another conversation tidbit, a crook said “We're good, I got enough jewelry, we're good.”

They were completely unaware that their criminal banter was heard by police and that the call was being traced. By the time cops arrived at the home, the men had gone, but one of the culprits was caught at a nearby business, attempting to sell jewelry he had just stolen from the residence.

23-year-old Payton Brewer was arrested but his accomplice was able to get away. Since the arrest, Brewer’s partner in crime struck again, burglarizing a grieving widow's home.

It’s believed he obtained the homeowners information by reading obituaries and documenting the funeral date.
