Diners in Matthews, North Carolina got a real shock when seated at a restaurant called Hops.

It was dinner time and the establishment was packed. But when police arrived at the restaurant, things quickly turned for the worse.

Managers went around to each table and told diners they had to immediately leave because the restaurant was closing permanently. As part of the last minute effort to empty out the place, customers were quickly handed their bills and boxes to take the food out the door with them.

Officers were called to the restaurant to deal with the crowds. According to a corporate authority, the establishment closed because a lease agreement could not be reached.

A reopening in another nearby location is not expected at this time. The bizarre closing process was entirely unorganized and abrupt. Employees at the restaurant had no idea what was going on and learned that they were out of a job the same night the customers were abruptly ushered out the doors.
