Marilyn Monroe pics, James Bond gun up for auction

Unpublished photos of Marilyn Monroe are going up for auction in California.

More than 3,700 negatives and transparancies show her in a variety of poses - some that made her a legendary sex symbol, others perhaps revealing a more subtle and fragile woman.

The photos belonged to the archive of celebrity photographer Milton H Greene, who was a close friend of the star, as Joe Maddalena from auction house Profiles in History explains

SOUNDBITE, Joe Maddalena, Profiles in History President, saying (English):

"The proximity to her and the intimacy that these portraits depict are unlike any other images of Marilyn Monroe because he had access to her in an environment where she was so relaxed and so herself that you see the quality and the greatness and the sparkle in her eyes that just doesn't exist by any other photographer whoever took her pictures."
