Grammy Winning Artist Kim Carnes to Perform (July/2013)

Meridian, Miss. She may not have Bette Davis eyes, but the Grammy Award-winning Kim Carnes will always be known for that number one hit she recorded in 1981. You may also remember her hit duet with Gene Cotton, "You're a Part of Me", or her chart-topping duet with Kenny Rogers, "Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer." Carnes is still writing music, still performing her hits. She told us the "Heart Behind the Music Concert will be something special, "You know, always the neat thing with the writer show is the story behind the song. What inspired you to write it? Did it come quickly? Did it take a year for that elusive third verse to come? Each song's so different, but when you do a writer's show, you get to hear the other writers tell the stories; and if someone else recorded the song, who did it, and why? There are long stories behind a lot of my songs."

In between recording her own music, Carnes has penned many hits for other artists, including "The Heart Won't Lie", which was a smash duet for Reba McEntire and Vince Gill. It's Carnes first trip to Meridian. The Los Angeles native, who now calls Nashville home, says she's excited about taking the stage at The Riley Center. "Jeff Hanna, who's the lead singer of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has played the (Riley Center) theater," Carnes explains, "and he said, 'Oh, my gosh, wait until you go there, you're going to love it, and it sounds wonderful!' So, I look forward to it!"

The "Heart Behind the Music" Concert is Tuesday, July 16th, at 7:30 p.m. at the MSU Riley Center in Meridian. Joining Carnes will be John Ford Coley, Lenny LeBlanc, Gene Cotton and Greg Barnhill. Tickets are $35.00 and $29.00 and can be purchased by calling (601)696-2200, or visiting www.msurileycenter.com.
