The death toll in the Asiana plane crash in San Francisco has risen to three.

San Francisco hospital officials on Friday confirmed the death of a Chinese girl in intensive care.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) DR MARGARET KNUDSON, CHIEF OF SURGERY AT SAN FRANCISCO GENERAL HOSPITAL, SAYING:

"She died of her injuries. It is a paediatric patient who has been in our intensive care unit since the time of her crash. Her family has asked that we don't release any details about her, her identity, the nature of her injuries or the treatment that she received."

Two other Chinese girls, both teenagers, were killed when the Boeing 777 crash landed at San Francisco airport a week ago.

More than 180 other people were injured.

The aircraft was carrying a total of 307 passengers and crew.

U.S. investigators say the plane was approaching too slowly when it hit a sea wall before coming to rest in flames on the runway.
