British police launch a new investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann after uncovering new leads.
The three-year-old girl vanished six years ago whilst on a family holiday in Portugal, leading to a global search that gripped the world's media.
The case sparked massive international interest and numerous reported sightings from Belgium and Spain to Morocco, France and Malta but Madeleine's fate remains a mystery.
Police launched a review of the case in 2011 after the missing girl's parents wrote to the British Prime Minister, saying not enough was being done to find their daughter.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) METROPOLITAN POLICE DETECTIVE CHIEF INSPECTOR, ANDY REDWOOD, SAYING:
"A vast quantity of material is being analysed and we have identified 38 persons of interest and within that 12 who are UK nationals and it is from that position that we have been able to move from review to investigation."
