Obama praises gay marriage ruling; lauds Mandela

Fanfare on the streets of Senegal as U.S. President Barack Obama's motorcade heads into the presidential Palace.

At a news conference with his Senagalese counterpart his thoughts turned to home as he praised the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:

"I think the Supreme court ruling yesterday was not only a victory for the LGBT community, I think it was a victory for American Democracy."

He also spoke about what is on the mind of many Africans.
