STORY: Dakar residents caught a glimpse of U.S. President Barack Obama through his car window on Thursday morning as he arrived at the Senegalese presidency.

The meeting with Senegal President Macky Sall was Obama's first official event during the president's visit to the West African country.

Many Africans feel a special bond with Obama, the first African-American U.S. president, and have been desperate for him to make an extended visit to the continent.

But they are also disappointed that the Obama administration has not engaged with the continent as much as the administrations of George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
