Bertha was a pregnant Rottweiler mix breed. After giving birth to stillborn pups, she began nursing Oklahoma rescue puppies.

An unlikely hero has stepped forward to help care for victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. Bertha was a stray 2-year-old Rottweiler mix breed.

She was previously residing at a South Bend, Indiana animal shelter. Moreover, she was pregnant and scheduled for euthanization.

The organization named Second Chance 4 Pets Network posted information about Bertha on Facebook and a volunteer offered to take the dog in.

When she arrived at the female volunteer’s house, Bertha was placed in a kiddie pool and observed for a full day but she had not yet delivered the pups. She was taken to a vet where she received a C-section. Sadly her 8 puppies were already dead.

Meanwhile, the rescue organization, Lakeshore PAWS in Indiana had received 6 newborn puppies that were saved from the Oklahoma tornadoes. Their mother was put down due to aggression.

Bertha’s volunteer offered to take the pups in and Bertha started nursing them. The director of Lakeshore PAWS stated “Here they had this sad mom and we had these puppies who needed help. It worked out great for all of us.”

Bertha is said to be a great mom to her foster puppies.
