Drivers on an Interstate in Maryland had flat tires, and the cause was related to nails which had been strewn about on the Beltway in College Park.

Tires and nails don’t make a good combination, especially for those of us who don’t want to encounter a costly car fix. Recently, numerous drivers on an Interstate in Maryland were forced to pull off to the side of the road after tires on their vehicles suddenly went flat.

The Safety Highway Administration announced that the cause of the flats was related to nails which had been strewn about on the Beltway in College Park. Authorities claimed that several vehicles had been affected.

While no exact number was officially released, Twitter users claimed that over two dozen cars were pulled over, resulting from the sharp nails. Nevertheless, it was reported that the area was cleared by the evening hours.

Highway authorities have not yet released where the nails originated from or how they got on the beltway.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that flats are a cause of many accidents in the United States. While nails are a common reason, underinflated tires are said to be the leading cause of blowouts.
