STORY: There were running clashes between police and protesters in the Turkish capital on Monday as the country's most violent riots in decades reignited after three days of some of the most violent riots in decades.

Police used water cannons to disperse protesters, knocking over a group of girls in the process.

Tear gas filled the streets of Ankara as police repeatedly fired off canisters and protesters picked them up to throw back.

One tear gas canister landed inside a taxi, smoking out the taxi driver and spilling gas from open doors and windows.

Turkey's most violent riots in decades may have been started by the destruction of a small Istanbul park, but they have exploded in a show of defiance at what many see as the creeping authoritarianism of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.

In power for more than a decade, Erdogan's Islamist-rooted AK Party has increased its share of the vote in each of the past three elections
