The death toll of a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on the island of Taiwan rises to at least three as of Monday.

Closed circuit television footage broadcast on local media showed visitors running out of buildings as the earthquake hit.

The Sunday quake damaged roads and infrastructure, and three provincial highways were severely blocked.

Significant damage was also done to this traditional tea house in the city of Nantou.

The quake struck almost 40 kilometers southeast of T'ai-chung city.

It also rattled the island's capital of Taipei.

Taiwan sits near the so-called ring of fire region of seismic activity around the Pacific Ocean.
